Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)


What accommodations are taken for disabled individuals?

The Clerk of Courts is committed to full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Reasonable accommodations are provided for qualified court participants with disabilities, in accordance with the law. As required by the ADA, the determination of the accommodation appropriate to a particular situation is an individualized inquiry and each decision is therefore made on a case-by-case basis.

What steps were taken for website accessibility?

The Broward County Clerk of the Courts is committed to making our website accessible to all visitors, as well as compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 accessibility standards. Accessible Web design provides benefits to individuals using assistive technology, users with text-based browsers, low-end processors, slow modem connections or users who do not have state-of-the-art computer equipment.

While Section 508 standards currently apply to federal government, we have tried to apply these accessibility principles in designing and creating the Clerk's website. What is the optimal screen size for this website?

There is an optimal screen size for viewing this website. From your Start menu, select Control Panel. From the Control Panel, select Display. From Display Properties, select the Settings tab. The screen area should be set to 1280 X 1024 pixels for optimal viewing. If this is set to a lower resolution, the screens will appear larger. This means you may need to scroll right and left to see an entire screen.

What is the best way to print this screen?

The best way to print a screen on this website is to set the Orientation to Landscape. Setting the Orientation varies depending on the type of browser on your computer.

In Internet Explorer go to the File menu and select the Print option. From the Print option, click preferences. On the Layout tab, set the orientation to Landscape. Then select OK. Select Print after changing the Orientation.

Courthouse Security and Prohibited Items


Administrative Order Governing Courthouse Security

The Broward County Courthouses are designated as Secure Facilities.

Pursuant to AO-2017-64-Gen (Amendment 1) Administrative Order Governing Courthouse Security, Section A (4); All persons are prohibited from carrying or being in possession of any other device(s) or instrument(s) that could be used or perceived to be used as a physical threat to persons or property, in any Broward County Courthouse. This includes, but is not limited to, any “contraband article,” as that term is defined in section 932.701, Florida Statutes. Some prohibitions may include, but are not limited to pocket knives, ammunition, fireworks, caustic or flammable liquids, and other items as listed on Exhibit A.


What to expect when entering a Broward County Courthouse?

When entering any of the four Broward County Courthouse locations, all persons will be subject to screening and search of his or her person and/or personal effects; including pockets, bags, briefcases, pocketbooks, purses, containers, packages, pagers, cellular telephones, electronic devices, and any other item deemed necessary for inspection with the use of electronic or other specialized equipment. Any person who refuses to submit to such screening or search shall be denied access to the Broward County Courthouse.


Prior to entering any Broward County Courthouse, be prepared to place all your items you bring into the courthouse through the security screen machine.

  • Remove all items from your pockets (cell phones, coins, keys, etc.) and belts, place them in a tray for screening.
  • Remove all electronic devices, (cell phones, iPads, laptops, tablets) from bags, briefcases, etc., and place them separately for screening.
  • Once all items are placed in the security screening machine, you will walk through a magnetometer. Any person who activates the magnetometer shall be subject to a security search to identify all objects which activated the magnetometer.
  • Remember to pick up your items from the security screener before leaving the security check point.

Electronic Court Records

Electronic Court Records are not available for all court cases. Below are the effective dates eFiling was mandated for the following court records:

Effective 04/01/2013, efiling was mandated for new and existing cases in Circuit Civil, County Civil, Family, Domestic Violence, Probate, Guardianship and certain Mental Health cases. All court records filed since this date are available in electronic format. Pleadings filed before this date are available from the Clerk in the court file in paper format.

Effective 01/06/2014, efiling was mandated for new and existing cases in Circuit Criminal Felony, Juvenile Delinquency and Traffic and Misdemeanor. All court records filed since this date are available in electronic format. Pleadings filed before this date are available from the Clerk in the court file in paper format.

Based upon Florida Statutes, some court records are not available to be viewed on this site, but may be obtained for viewing at the courthouse where the case file is located, unless they are confidential.

Fee Based Services

The Clerk charges reasonable fees for optional premium services provided through this site as allowed by law. The Clerk reserves the right to change the fees and service provisions at any time. No refunds will be made for early termination of services once purchased by the User or for errors and service utilization incurred due to User error. If you need to contact the Clerk's office, you may do so via the email service provided through this site.

User acknowledges that a convenience fee is associated with the payment of fines and fees due on Parking and Code Enforcement, Traffic Infractions, municipal ordinances, criminal traffic, misdemeanors and felony offenses.

Unauthorized Utilization and Alteration

UPDATE - CONDITIONAL PLEA OF NO CONTEST IN CIVIL TRAFFIC INFRACTION PROCEEDINGS NOT INVOLVING TRAFFIC CRASHES - AO-2020-36-CO

No Court Appearance and No Points

If you have received a traffic ticket in Broward County that does not involve a crash or require a mandatory hearing under Florida Statutes section 319.9, you may submit a Conditional Plea of No Contest to the court.

If your conditional plea is accepted by the court:

  • You will not have a court hearing.
  • No points will be added to your driving record.
  • The court will withhold adjudication of guilt.
  • You will be required to comply with any resolution the court imposes, such as paying a fine and attending driving school.

If for any reason the court declines to accept your conditional plea, your case will be handled through the normal traffic ticket process and may be set for a pre-trial teleconference. At that time, the conditional plea that you submitted earlier cannot be used as evidence against you.

You may drop off this completed Plea at the Clerk's drop box at any location of the Broward County Courthouse; you may also send it via U.S. Mail to Broward County Clerk of Court, P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33302-4610; or you may scan and email the form to the Clerk of Court at TrafficEclerk@browardclerk.org.

CONDITIONAL PLEA OF NO CONTEST IN CIVIL TRAFFIC INFRACTION PROCEEDINGS NOT INVOLVING TRAFFIC CRASHES - AO-2020-36-CO

Pursuant to Administrative Order AO-2020-36-CO, any party with a pending civil traffic infraction that does not arise out of a traffic crash who wishes to resolve their case without making a physical appearance at the courthouse and desiring that their case be reviewed to determine if the infractions will be resolved by a withhold of adjudication of guilt resulting in “no points” on their driving record may file a “Conditional Plea of No Contest And Affidavit of Defense or Admission and Waiver of Appearance” without also having to post a monetary bond.

SUSPENDING JURY TRIALS AND JURY OPERATIONS - AO-2020-21-TEMP

Pursuant to Administrative Order AO-2020-21-TEMP, all jury duty service in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court is suspended for the next two weeks, March 16 – March 20, 2020 and March 23 – 27, 2020. All other Court operations are resuming as normal until further notice.

All citizens currently serving on a panel shall continue their service through the duration of the assigned trial unless otherwise ordered by the judge.

A decision will be made at a later date regarding future juror responsibilities.

RESTRICTING CERTAIN VISITORS TO COURTHOUSES - AO-2020-20-TEMP

Pursuant to Administrative Order AO-2020-20-TEMP, the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit has implemented its Continuity of Operations Plan, and accordingly, no public access will be allowed at any of Broward County’s four courthouses beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, for a period of two weeks.

The only exceptions at the Main Central Courthouse are for the following:

  • Persons seeking domestic violence injunctions (2nd floor, West building)
  • Jurors currently empaneled in trial in certain criminal cases
  • Persons permitted, by advance notice, by the Chief Judge and/or presiding judge

Essential due process proceedings will still be held in the Main Central Courthouse (First Appearances, a.m. and p.m.; Juvenile Detentions p.m.; Juvenile Shelters, p.m.).

Until further notice, no proceedings will be held at any satellite courthouse (North Regional in Deerfield Beach; West Regional in Plantation; South Regional in Hollywood).

Courthouse staff will report to work as normal.

Remote Hearings by Zoom
